We now know why it’s called ‘Glorious’ Goodwood!! Our director Laura had the pleasure of attending the first day of the Qatar Festival on Tuesday, read below to hear about her experience:-
‘I had high expectations for Goodwood as I’ve heard so many great reports, but I can honestly say they were exceeded!! On our arrival we were guided through the beautiful landscape to our designated car park which was easy to find, there were staff on hand at each point directing you to spaces and ensuring cars kept moving so there were no queues. We parked and had a short walk to the main entrance where we were greeted by friendly and welcoming staff.
We were very fortunate to be hosted in the ‘Secret Garden’ which is located within the Richmond enclosure just beyond the winning post – the room was beautifully decorated with wild English flowers and plants to give it a real enchanted feel.
Introductions were made and champagne was served, everyone seemed very relaxed and excited about the day ahead. Shortly afterwards lunch was served in a buffet format, I can honestly say everything was delicious as I did attempt to try a little bit of each – all in the name of research of course!!
Racing was soon to begin so we carefully listened to the tipster who gave us his recommendations, we made our choices and placed bets before making our way outside to watch the first race. The racecourse is slightly elevated so beyond the actual track you can see for miles across the Sussex Downs – it looks like a postcard!
Between races we continued to drink and were entertained by 4 lovely ladies singing 1940’s classics. I loved the vibe and atmosphere of the whole racecourse, it’s very traditional and spacious which seems to relax everyone but there’s a great buzz of excitement too so it’s the perfect mix.
The parade ring was located a short walk away from our private facilities so we walked down to see the horses before most races, they were all beautifully turned out and seemed to enjoy parading for the excited crowd who were choosing who to place their money on!
There are two main stands which have various boxes, restaurants and seating areas for members and non-members. Next door to the secret garden is the Charlton Stand boxes which have which can accommodate up to 120 guests in one suite – the views again from here are superb as you’re either located on the first or second floor and all have their own balconies overlooking the course. This is where I’d personally recommend for corporate & private groups. There are other suites, boxes and restaurants available too so they have something to fit everyone depending on your numbers and requirements.
The Goodwood estate is well known for their horse racing along with their infamous ‘Festival of Speed’ and ‘Goodwood Revival’. However, what you might not know is that the whole Goodwood estate is spread over a whopping 12,000 acres!!! It comprises of the main Goodwood House, the racecourse, the motor circuit & aerodrome, a flying school, a golf course & driving range, the old Kennels (which is now a private members club with event space) and a 91 bedroom hotel with conference facilities & full spa – not to mention the BMW driving academy along with all of the other onsite activities which are available for incentives, away days and team building!! There really is something for everyone!!
I would highly recommend Goodwood, not only for the horse racing but for any incentive or conference with a difference – there are just so many options and venues to utilise.’
